POMPTON LAKES VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS Post 2906 Post 2906 VFW of Pompton Lakes was formed after diligent work by 4 original members of the Post, namely, Schuyler Sisco, George Post, Vincent Gregory and Charles Dunay. It took them 2 years to finally receive a charter, so on March 4, 1934, a charter in the name of John Hand Tri-County Post No. 2906, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was issued. A ladies auxiliary was formed and chartered on September 19, 1940. Meetings in the early years were held in various places. The Post increased in numbers and prestige... Mr. Charles M. Cowdrey donated property so that a permanent post home might be built. Construction of the post home was started in 1951. The official opening was on Memorial Day 1952. Post No. 2906 VFW received our perpetual charter on October 4, 1976. Through the years, our post has sponsored: A drum & bugle corps, baseball teams, bowling teams, Boy Scouts, picnics and dinners for veteran homes in our area. We've assisted the church communities in their food programs for the needy, involved our post in community endeavors and programs. We really do live up to our slogan: "WE HONOR THE DEAD BY DOING FOR THE LIVING" |
