LIONS CLUB
The Pompton Lakes Lions Club, a service organization and member of Lions International, was established in 1953.
The principal mission of the Club and of Lions International is sight conservation and assistance to the blind. The Club has contributed to many organizations and research projects, such as Camp Marcella, a summer camp for blind children, The Eye Bank of Delaware Valley, The Seeing Eye and others. It has provided free examinations and eyeglasses for needy families in Pompton Lakes and in Riverdale.
The Club has been involved in many service activities on the local level, such as its annual scholarship award to a deserving high school senior, annual sponsorship of a baseball team in the Pompton Lakes-Riverdale Little League, the construction of the first two tennis courts in Pompton Lakes, installation of benches around Pompton Lake and holiday decorative lighting on Wanaque Avenue.
The Lions Club no longer meets.
