KIMBLE-WEATHERWALKS POST 235, AMERICAN LEGION

The Kimble-Weatherwalks American Legion post is named for two local heroes who gave their lives during World War II. Private first class Calvin Weatherwalks was killed at the age of 20 in an attack on the strongly held Cassino Monastery during the Italian campaign on November 9, 1944. He was a member of the 135th Infantry Division. Corporal Harold Weatherwalks was killed on Leyte Island, the Philippines, November 2, 1945 in a Japanese Kamikaze raid. He was attached to the 365th Bombardment Squadron. Both young men were born in Pompton Lakes and attended the local grammar school and high school. Before entering the service they resided at 19 Wanaque Ave. and were employed by E. I. DuPont.

About 125 persons joined in the 40th anniversary celebration of the Kimble-Weatherwalks Post 235, American Legion, in May 1959. Three charter members of the Post were given 40-year certificates: Howard Wells, Frank "Pat" Ball and Howard Ball. Isaac Ball, who moved to Florida, had also been a charter member of the Post.

We are now 76 years old and our present home, 25 Carr Street, was dedicated September 24, 1953. At that time, World War I and World War II veterans were very active. As time goes by we have lost so many that built our post. But we are still alive, not as strong as we were in 1953, but still trying.
